HISTORY
TWENTY FIVE YEARS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
November 11, 1985 to November 11, 2010
ACORD, Inc. was founded in 1985 by concerned professionals in the academic and human service communities in collaboration with families and friends of persons with developmental disabilities. The agency is incorporated under the laws of the State of Connecticut, and is operated for the benefit of persons with disabilities, regardless of age, sex, veteran’s status, race, color, nationality, religion, or ability to pay.
ACORD’s original purpose and continued commitment is to collaborate with the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services and other state and local government agencies in ways that synthesize the flexibility of the private sector, the resources of the public sector and the creativity of both, to provide person-centered, cost effective services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. This commitment has been reflected in the decades of ACORD’s services and programs which have made it possible for persons with disabilities to experience a meaningful life within their community.
