ACORD MISSION

The mission of ACORD, Inc. is to provide an increasing range of community based supports and services to persons with developmental disabilities through creative efforts that affirm the worth of each individual. In this context, the agency is committed to excellence in service and strives to exceed the expectations of its service recipients, employees and other stake holders. All services are provided in an ethically and financially responsible manner.

CORE VALUES STATEMENT

Our core values are grounded in our belief that each person is a unique individual and our recognition that people seek different outcomes for themselves. Our values direct our services to support each person to achieve or maintain personal safety, security, and well-being; to promote the individual’s pursuit of happiness and life’s enjoyment; to encourage the development of personal independence and life skills; and to empower people to pursue their personal dreams through self determination.

Our pledge is to provide high quality services to meet and exceed the expectations of people as they face life’s challenges. We support people to overcome obstacles and celebrate successes.  We assist people to become contributing and valued members of their communities.  We realize the importance of relationships. We strive to create opportunities for individuals to meet people who share similar interests and maintain contacts with their families and other significant people in their lives. ORGANIZATION

ACORD is a professionally managed, not-for-profit agency.

ACORD has a Board of Directors that is vested with the overall guidance and direction of the agency. It is made of of volunteers representing a wide variety of community interests and talents,  including individuals who have family member(s) with developmental disabilities. Their basic collective responsibility is to function as a planning, policy making, evaluating, and decision making body. The Board, as a group, holds legal responsibility for the action of the corporation. The Board of Directors also establishes, amends, and approves personnel policies, including job descriptions, salary ranges, and organizational structure.

The management team includes an executive director, a director of administrative services, directors of day and residential services, residential managers, and day program supervisors. They collectively have over one hundred and twenty years of experience in the field. They are dedicated professionals committed to assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in community activities to the optimal extent of their desires and capacities.

SERVICE PHILOSOPHY

ACORD is committed to providing opportunities which foster self-actualization by creating a safe and holistic environment that utilizes and values every person's strengths and diversities. Through this environment, ACORD affirms and supports every person's freedom to be creative and the right to take reasonable risks. We seek to promote a proactive approach to meet the challenges of living in today's community, while preparing for tomorrow's world.

As an integral part of each individual's support network, we focus our entire effort on supporting each person to live as independently and safely as possible; recognizing and affirming their choices and beliefs in the process.

ACORD supports the mission of the Department of Mental Retardation with its emphasis on assisting individuals with a disability to have presence and participation in the community, have opportunities to exercise competence, make choices, enjoy relationships with friends and family, and to be treated with respect and dignity.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

ACORD maintains an internal quality audit process to ensure its programs and services are meeting funding agencies', vendors', and service participants' standards of performance and expectations. ACORD also conducts periodic safety audits in all service sites to ensure the safety of the people we serve and the people who serve them. ACORD has a Safety Committee constituted of representative  program instructors, managers, and service participants. The committee meets periodically to review safety audits, accidents, and injuries. They make safety recommendations to executive and program directors. 

ACORD has a commitment to listen to the people who receive services. The agency conducts a regular participant and service contractor satisfaction survey. This provides a formal mechanism for evaluation the performance of the agency in meeting its commitment of excellence in the quality of its services.

Quality assurance feedback is used by the Board of Directors and the management team to review the agency's services on a regular basis.
